Consumer Unit Upgrade in Bedale

The Brief

A homeowner in Bedale still had an old rewireable fuse box with no RCD protection. It had served the property for decades but was well behind current safety standards, and they wanted it brought up to date before it caused a problem. The brief was simple: replace the board, make the installation safe, and document it properly.

What We Did

Our work included:

• Assessed the existing installation: Checked every circuit the old board fed so the replacement could be specified correctly and any issues flagged before starting.
• Removed the old fuse box: The rewireable board was safely isolated and removed, with the supply managed to keep disruption to a minimum.
• Installed a modern consumer unit: A new board with RCBO protection on each circuit, so a fault on one circuit no longer takes out the whole house.
• Tested every circuit: Each circuit was tested before and after the change to confirm it was safe and working correctly.
• Labelled and certified: The board was clearly labelled and an Electrical Installation Certificate issued and registered with NAPIT.

The Result

The property now has modern, per-circuit protection that disconnects quickly if a dangerous fault occurs, and clear documentation the homeowner can give to insurers or a future buyer. The work was completed within the day and the area left clean and tidy.
